Some people take the day to be selfish, at least once a year when they are allowed to be. Some people don’t really care to celebrate their birthday. Usually, I fall within the 2nd category. It’s just a day that marks yet another year of getting closer to being eligible to withdraw from my IRA and receive social security check (ha! like that will ever happen for my generation).
This year I’ve decided to take a different approach to my birthday. I’ve decided to do a small fundraiser for one of my favorite charities, Human Rights Watch. The organization is dedicated to protecting the human rights of people around the world. I chose them because human rights are very important, even in the information age. People all over the world still have to fight (and sometimes die) just to get their basic human rights back from the oppressive government. HRW is there to help them achieve it.
Thanks to Causes, they made it very easy. It took me about 10 minutes to get everything setup, plus the Birthday Wish page looks pretty awesome!
The goal of this fundraiser is to raise $500 for Human Rights Watch by my birthday, March 23rd. It’s not a life changing amount of money, but anything counts and helps charities who rely on donations. Every penny counts.
Reaching my goal would be the best birthday present ever. If you are able, financially, to spare few dollars to help me reach the goal I would really appreciate it. Visit Birthday Wish page by visiting http://viktorsblog.com/birthday-wish
If you can’t donate, consider sharing this fundraiser with your friends and family. Birthday Wish offers social media sharing options at the bottom of the page once you’re there.
NOTE: Thanks to Jason Hoblin for being the first donor!
NOTE TO BLOGGERS: Consider running your own fundraiser for your favorite charity.
